Main streets and landmarks

Sheridan Road, Marine Drive, Broadway and Clarendon Avenue carry most north–south traffic, while Irving Park Road and Montrose Avenue frame the south and north ends. The name traces to James B. Waller, whose "Buena" estate dates to 1860. Chicago annexed the land in 1889, which makes Buena Park, Chicago older than most of Uptown. St. Mary of the Lake Church, completed in 1917, now occupies the ground where the Waller house stood.

Graceland Cemetery, founded in 1860 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, lines the western boundary with its landscaped grounds.

Getting around: CTA and Lake Shore Drive

• Red Line: the elevated Sheridan station at 3940 N Sheridan Rd sits just south of Irving Park Road, with bus connections to the #80 and #151.
• #151 Sheridan: stops on Sheridan Road at Irving Park, Buena and Montrose.
• #36 Broadway: stops on Broadway at Irving Park, Buena and Montrose.
• #146 Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express: express service with stops along Marine Drive, including Buena and Montrose.
• #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express: stops on Clarendon Avenue, including Buena and Montrose.
• #80 Irving Park and #78 Montrose run crosstown along the two border streets, and the #22 Clark runs just west of Graceland.
• Drivers can reach Lake Shore Drive at Irving Park Road and Montrose Avenue.

Inside the neighborhood, Buena Circle Park is a 0.45-acre park with a playground next to the dog-friendly area at Challenger Park. Ginkgo Organic Gardens and the Peace Garden add community green space. Across Lake Shore Drive, Lincoln Park holds the Lakefront Trail, reached at Irving Park Road, Buena Avenue and Montrose Avenue, along with Montrose Beach, Montrose Harbor and the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary.
