The 10 Best Restaurants in East Lakeview, Chicago
The list runs roughly south to north, starting near Diversey Parkway and ending just south of Addison Street. I don't list hours or prices because they change often. Check each restaurant's website or call before you go.
1. The Gundis Kurdish Kitchen
The Gundis bills itself as Chicago's first Kurdish kitchen, with a menu built on traditional Kurdish cooking methods and the ingredients of Anatolian cuisine. The MICHELIN Guide lists it and highlights its spreads, hearty meat dishes and a weekend breakfast with black sesame bread, house preserves and bottomless Kurdish tea. Reservations are taken online.
2. Crisp
Crisp fuses Korean flavors and sauces with American-style fried chicken. The menu covers wings, whole birds, chicken sandwiches and the restaurant's signature Buddha Bowl, with sides like kimchee and Superfly Frites. Pickup and delivery orders can be placed on its website.
3. Chilam Balam
Chilam Balam serves modern Mexican food as shareable plates, from guacamole and ceviche to larger dishes. It's BYOB (beer, wine and tequila only) and takes cash or Venmo, so plan ahead. Reservations are requested by email, and the restaurant is listed in the MICHELIN Guide.

4. Wilde Bar & Restaurant
Open since 2007, Wilde takes its literary theme seriously: there's a fireplace in what it calls its grand library, plus two antique Brunswick bars. Come for dinner and drinks, or for weekend brunch on the sidewalk patio when the weather cooperates.
5. DryHop Brewers
DryHop calls itself Lakeview East's neighborhood brewery. It brews its own rotating beers and keeps a full kitchen, with a food menu alongside beer, non-alcoholic options, cocktails and wine. Carryout and delivery are available.
For buyers considering East Lakeview, everyday dining is part of the picture. These restaurants share the blocks with vintage courtyard buildings, greystone 2- and 3-flats and lakefront high-rise condos. If you'd like to see homes nearby, I can help through my buyer representation services, or call or text me at 312-219-5921.
6. Drew's on Halsted
Drew's has been a Halsted Street mainstay since 1996, serving American classics and cocktails in a cozy dining room with patio seating. It also serves weekend brunch, and its cabaret night earned a Best New Concept award from the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce.
7. Mia Francesca
Mia Francesca opened on Clark Street in 1992 and became the first of the Francesca's group of Italian restaurants; it celebrated its 34th anniversary in 2026. The menu is a love letter to Italian cooking, with pastas such as gnocchi alongside other Italian classics. Reservations are accepted, and private dining is available.

8. Bites Asian Kitchen + Bar
Next door to Mia Francesca, Bites mixes ramen, sushi and burgers on one menu, backed by a full cocktail bar. It takes reservations for regular tables and offers catering and online ordering.
9. The Chicago Diner
The Chicago Diner has served meat-free comfort food on Halsted since 1983, and its founders have said that critics and lenders doubted the idea at the time. It calls itself a traditional-style diner serving the classics in a plant-based, vegan and vegetarian format. Brunch is served daily alongside the regular menu, and seasonal specials include milkshakes. It uses a waitlist instead of reservations.

10. Kit Kat Club
After 25 years at its original Halsted address, Kit Kat reopened in fall 2025 in an Art Deco-style space at 3524 N Halsted with a large patio, Time Out Chicago reported. It's a dinner-and-show supper club: dinner, cocktails and weekend brunch come with live stage performances, and reservations are available.
